چکیده

Abstract— When measured as a commodity, electric energy can be traded in a free market, synchronized only by the bids of customers and suppliers. With the beginning of deregulation in electricity sector, many Generation and Distribution Companies have come into the picture and change the vertically integrated organization of electric utilities. However, the combined transmission system is measured to be a natural monopoly so as to avoid the betrayal, innate problems of right-of-the-way, ecological issues and bulky asset for new structure, and compensation of the interconnected network. The interconnected transmission grid allows the efficient and consistent use of assets and reduces danger of power failures. In order to make certain a well competitive situation, an Independent System Operator (ISO) has invented as a generic operator, which defines rules and protocols for open and unbiased entrée of transmission services. The open access transmission framework results in more severe utilize of the transmission system with the market participants, and in turn may direct to the condition’s in which transmission network is not capable to contain all the pet transactions due to failure of some system constraints. This occurrence is commonly defined as “congestion”. The congestion in transmission system is one of the serious hindrances in front of perfect competition in deregulated environment. Thus, supervision of transmission congestion is one of the chief functions of ISO. The optimal allocation of FACTS device is explored for congestion management and social welfare maximization while minimizing the usage cost of FACTS devices.

Congestion management using demand response and FACTS devices

An approach is proposed for transmission lines congestion management in a restructured market environment using a combination of demand response (DR) and flexible alternating current transmission system (FACTS) devices. To achieve this aim, a two-step market clearing procedure is formulated. In the first step, generation companies bid to the market for maximizing their profit, and the ISO clear...

Congestion Management in Electricity Markets Using Demand Response Programs and Series FACTS Devices

In today’s restructured environment, congestion management plays an essential role in power system operation. Different methods are presented and discussed in this respect for congestion management in short-term and long-term intervals. It is attempted in the present paper to investigate the impact mechanism of FACTS devices and demand response programs together with generation re-dispatch as s...

1 Do Generation Firms in Restructured Electricity Markets Have Incentives to Support Socially - Efficient Transmission Investments ? *

This paper examines the incentives that generation firms have in restructured electricity markets for supporting long-term transmission investments. In particular, we study whether generation firms, which arguably play a dominant role in the restructured electricity markets, have the incentives to fund or support social-welfare-improving transmission investments. We examine this question and ex...

Optimal Locating and Sizing of TCPST for Congestion Management in Deregulated Electricity Markets

Congestion and overloads in transmission lines always is one of the basic problems in the power system operation. Some of the consequences of this problem in the restructured power system are sudden price increasing in some areas, increase in market power and reduction in the competition in the market. FACTS devices as an efficient, powerful and economical means can have a key role in transmiss...

ISO Net Surplus Extraction in Restructured Wholesale Power Markets

This study uses dynamic 5-bus and 30-bus test cases to explore the net surplus (congestion rents) collected and redistributed by ISOs in restructured wholesale power markets with grid congestion managed by locational marginal pricing. The price-sensitivity of demand and the learning capabilities of generators are taken as treatment factors. A key finding is that ISO net surplus substantially in...
